After looking at a bunch of cameras, reviews, prices and features, and finally decided to go with the Canon SX20IS. It finally arrived today, and I couldn't wait to take pictures. It was very easy to get it started, I didn't have to look at any manual to start taking pictures. I read some reviews of people saying that the camera doesn't take good pictures in auto mode, well, I didn't have any problem taking awesome pictures in auto mode. All my pictures came out clear and very nice.
I tested out the video recording, and was very impressed with the quality of the video (of course HD), and the voice. It really picks up on everything around you.
Many reviewers also stated that they had problems with the lens cap falling off, I can't say too much about that yet, since I just got the camera today, but from what I can see, it holds firmly to the lens, and you can actually hear the click when it is attached.
All in all I'm extremely happy with my choice, and can't wait to see what else this camera has in store for me.

I am very pleased with this Canon Camera. I needed a point-and-shoot device, but I wanted more control than a pocket camera would allow. It can be automated or manual, but the pictures in low light have exceeded my expectations. The 20x zoom is great, too. The SX20 is a little heavier than I expected, but that is not a problem. Its weight helps me to stabilize the camera. Also, being a clumsy individual, I am still learning how to undo button actions that occur when I accidentally press one of the external controls. Overall, I think very highly of the SX20, I am very happy with it, and I would recommend it to others who may be looking for such a camera.

The only real negative thing about this camera is the lack of threads on the front of the lens so filters can be used. The only way to use filters is to purchase a sort of "mickey mouse" adapter to mount on the camera and then the filters will screw on like on a normal camera. It is hard to believe that Canon thought of so many things but did not add threads so normal filters could be used. A rather major oversight. There are reports that filters can be screwed on but there are definitely no threads so if a filter does "stick" it is just luck and should not be trusted.

Only real minus of this camera is lack of interchangeable lens, but that saves $200. Takes great pictures. I suspect those complaining about pictures it takes are imaging when shutter speeds are too slow, I just set the camera to use 125th of a second, and then that doesn't happen; or cases where auto focus can get confused. Has many great features, but REALLY, one should read the Guide! However the real User Guide is not included in hard copy form, it's on the Program CD or online as a PDF file. Included is an abbreviated "Getting Started" Manual, it's good for starting, but you do want the fuller "Camera User Guide". Once one learns where all the buttons are and what they do, this camera is a joy.
Love the 20 to 1 zoom, and the LCD screen. And yes you can use filters on the lens if you buy a 58 mm adapter ring.

Bought this camera on recent reviews. No surprises, I attached lens cap with lens cord and super-glued to cap the first day. Other than a flimsy lens cap, this is a great camera. Just returned from a ski trip, carried it in my fanny pack. Terrific color, ease of use, stabilization and best of all, the telephoto! Interior night shots were excellent, low light not a problem. Recommend a class VI (6) or above SD Memory card for quickest camera response in writing to memory. Battery (rechargeable) not a problem, even in cold weather.
Camera still new to me, but has exceeded my expectations to this point. No video shot yet.
Strong buy recommendation if you are looking for a larger than pocket camera, but smaller that Nikon standard body with most or all of the features at a reasonable price. Best of all the optical telephoto lens eliminates carrying additional lens.
